Derek is a results-driven IT professional, entrepreneur, and people leader with a passion for leveraging technology to optimize HR and payroll functions. With over a decade of experience in IT implementation and project management across multinational corporations and consultancies, he specializes in driving digital transformation, streamlining processes, and delivering HR & Payroll solutions that enhance business efficiency and growth.
Originally from Hong Kong and educated in the UK, Derek holds two master’s degrees: an MEng in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Bristol and an MSc in Computing Science from Imperial College London. His early career saw him leading large-scale IT and payroll system implementations at blue-chip companies such as Procter & Gamble, IBM, Logica (now CGI), Capgemini, and Tate & Lyle. He has successfully delivered complex HR and payroll solutions across the world, managing global teams and implementing bespoke applications for both private and public sector clients as well as NGOs.
In 2010, Derek transitioned from corporate IT to entrepreneurship, taking on the challenge of modernizing and expanding his family’s business. As Head of IT & Business Development at Future Lighting, he led a full-scale digital transformation, scaling the business sixfold and establishing it as a market leader in Hong Kong and Macau. His leadership was instrumental in driving innovation, developing new revenue streams, and securing over 80 industry awards, including the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence and HSBC Living Business SDGs Award.
Derek relocated to Grand Cayman with his family in 2022, embracing a new professional and personal chapter. Today, he continues to apply his expertise in HR technology, payroll solutions, and digital transformation, helping businesses navigate change and unlock new growth opportunities. With a proactive, customer-focused mindset and a 'can-do' attitude, Derek thrives on delivering solutions that not only meet but exceed client expectations.
Outside of work, Derek enjoys the vibrant Caribbean lifestyle. You’ll often find him snorkeling, or relaxing by the sea with his family, making the most of island life.
